Introduction

Educational Gaming is controversial from the aspect of time, cost, management, design and learning. Throughout this work, you will explore some of the gaming issues, and create a couple of games, so that you have a better idea of where games may fit into learning.
Some questions you may ask yourself:
  • What are the kinds (classification) of games?
  • How can games foster learning and how can games inhibit learning?
  • As an instructor, what kinds of games do you use for what kinds of purposes?

Process

Play Games and Review Games out there!

TASK 1:
Take at least 1 HOUR and review different types of games and options out there. Have FUN! You may find more on your own, but please check out 1 or 2 from the list below.

TASK 2:

Make a WYSIWYG Game

Use the WYSIWYG to create a game. Spend about 1-2 hours, but STOP then. You may use content from this course, or you may use something that works into a lesson for teaching something else. You do NOT have to work alone, but can create with another.

Remember: Save the page that is housing your game. It may be a web address or print out. You will share what you have done in class next week.

What are the types of games out there:
1. What does Seymour Pappert have to say and why do we care?

2. Research Gaming

Choose the field of your interest.
  1. Go to D2L.
  2. Pick 2 articles that pertain to your area of interest.
  3. Find another article.
  4. Synthesize the articles on document... IF you want to be creative, do so. If not, write in a word doc.
